Parking/Transportation Options
A free Polar Express Shuttle System will be available and we encourage all Plungers and spectators to use this fast, efficient mode of transportation to and from the Park. We’ll even be giving away great prizes to shuttle riders all day long! Beginning at 8 a.m., Polar Express shuttles will be transporting passengers to Sandy Point State Park from:
- Navy-Marine Corps Stadium – Annapolis (for directions, see below)
- Shuttle service to and from Sandy Point State Park will begin promptly at 7:30 AM and continue until 5 PM. Shuttle buses will run a continuous loop to and from the park in order to prevent delays.
- In order to guarantee your arrival at Sandy Point State Park in time for the 1 pm or 3pm Plunge, we strongly recommend that you board the shuttle bus NO later than 90 minutes before the desired plunge.
- The Naval Academy Stadium and Anne Arundel Community College are approximately 5 miles from Sandy Point State Park and over 150 shuttle buses will provide a quick, hassle-free ride to and from the event
- Anne Arundel Community College – Arnold (for directions, see below)
- Kent Island High School – Stevensville (for directions, see below)
- Shuttle service will load and unload from the bus lane/traffic circle at the High School.
- In order to arrive in time for the 1 pm or 3pm plunge please plan to load the bus no later than 90 minutes before the plunge.
- Buses will run a loop from the school lot, so pick-ups will occur approximately every 30 minutes beginning at 8:00 am.
- When departing, please be sure to look for a bus marked EASTERN SHORE – all other buses will travel West to the Naval Academy Stadium and Anne Arundel Community College.
NOTE: For the comfort of all passengers, our event staff reserves the right to deny shuttle service to anyone who appears drunk and/or disorderly. As always, we ask everyone to be respectful of those around them. In addition, undercover “Bus Marshals” will be circulating throughout the shuttle routes all day long to enforce the regulations.
Parking Options:
The size of our crowd has outgrown the space available for parking. Additionally, the space needed to accommodate the shuttle system and the need to dramatically increase the number of shuttles offered has severely limited the already small number of general parking spaces available in years past. Because we don’t want anyone to arrive very early and wait in line only to be turned away due to a shortage of spaces, PARKING IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE ON A FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVED BASIS ON PLUNGE DAY. However, there are still numerous ways that participants can secure parking at Sandy Point. These include:
- Reservations can be made for buses – email Jackie Isphording at jisphording@somd.org to reserve your bus pass today! These passes are strictly for use by buses – bus passes used by SUV’s, RV’s or smaller cars will not be honored on Jan. 30.
- No overnight parking of buses or RV’s is permitted.
- All individual Plungers who raise $1,500 by January 15th will receive a parking pass for Sandy Point State Park, guaranteeing them parking on site on Plunge Day. (Note: Parking passes are limited to the first 200 Plungers.)
- All remaining parking spaces will be awarded by lottery draw to a TBD number of lucky Plunge participants. To be eligible for the drawing, participants must have raised the minimum $50 by January 15.
